PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting element which can enhance a yield when a ridge having a prescribed width is formed, in which a shock or damage to one ridge participating in a light emitting operation can be reduce in a cleavage or an assembling operation and whose reliability is superior. SOLUTION: The semiconductor light emitting element is provided with a plurality of ridge parts formed on the surface of a p-type AlGaAs clad layer 5 by keeping prescribed intervals. The plurality of ridges comprise widths which are different from each other.
