PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the NMR relaxation time of water proton which is in contact with a biological tissue. SOLUTION: A composition for NMR contrast of a biological tissue is provided. The composition is comprised of a NMR contrast medium including paramagnetic metal ions each complexed with an organic chelated multidentate ligand containing one or more aryl rings, and its action is based on a specific affinity of the NMR contrast medium to the biological tissue. A NMR contrast medium for bile duds of the liver, including paramagnetic metal ions chelated in a proportion of 1:1 with an organic chelated multidentate ligand, is also provided. The NMR contrast medium for bile ducts of the liver has (1) a formation constant of at least 10-10 M and (3) at least one heterocyclic aryl ring.
