PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method of restoring an abnormally recorded file of a disk recording and reproducing device which makes use of the abnormally recorded file when the abnormally recorded file where a file index does not exist is recorded. SOLUTION: The temporary information different from the intrinsic information is imparted to the data index of the frame data recorded at the disk and the file index of the file written at the point of the time the writing of the files of a prescribed unit to the disk ends is formed. The temporary information is thereafter rewritten and is restored to the intrinsic information. The temporary information described above is detected in turning on of a power source and the presence of the abnormally recorded file where the file index does not exist is detected by detecting this temporary information. When the abnormally recorded file exists, the file index of the abnormally recorded file is formed and the abnormally recorded file is restored by rewriting the temporary information of the abnormally recorded file and returning the information to the intrinsic information.
