SOLUTION: A supporting member 311 to support liquid crystal panels 441R, 441G, 441B is arranged in parallel with a flow path of cooling air formed between the incident end face of a cross dichroic prism 45 and each liquid crystal panel 441R, 441G, 441B. The supporting member 311 is constituted of a pair of members to support the vicinity of end pats of the liquid crystal panels 441R, 441G, 441B. A gap between the incident end face of the cross dichroic prism 45, facing the flow path of cooling air, and each liquid crystal panel 441R, 441G, 441B can be increased, and thus cooling air enough to cool the liquid crystal panel 441R, 441G, 441B or the like can be passed through in the flow direction, so that the polarizing plate 446 and the liquid crystal panels 441R, 441G, 441B or the like can efficiently be cooled.
