<p>Isolated and purified human mitochondrial proteins containing the amino acid sequences represented by SEQ ID NOS:2 and 4 which are novel human proteins promoting the aggregation and fusion of mitochondria; polynucleotides encoding the mitochondrial proteins; antibodies against the mitochondrial proteins; and proteoliposomes composed of the mitochondrial proteins and lipids. The mitochondrial proteins are useful in clarifying causes for mitochondrial diseases and developing methods for preventing and treating the same. The antibodies and probes originating in the genes encoding these proteins are usable as effective materials for estimating mitochondrial states in these diseases. Moreover, the proteoliposomes provide a means of specifically transferring a foreign gene or a drug targeting mitochondria.</p> |
