A user behavior based docuemnt ranking system may include a search server computer (22) that is connected by a computer network (24) to one or more web sites (26) including WS1,...WSn. The server computer (22) may include one or more cental processing units (30) that control the operation of the computer, a persistent storage device (32) that maintains data even when the power is turned off to the computer and a temporary memory (34). The memory (34) is loaded with a particular software application such as the search engine (36). The user computer (28) may include a display device (40), a chassis (42), a keyboard (44), a mouse (46). The chassis (42) may include a central processing unit (48), persistent storage device (40), and a memory (52). A method permits prior user behavior associated with a document to affect the future ranking of that document.
