Toner images of different colors developed on photosensitive drums are superimposedly transferred to an intermediate transfer belt to form an image, and then the image is transferred on a sheet of paper. The primary transfer voltage is so determined that the absolute value of the potential difference between the potential at the background area of the photosensitive drums where toner does not adhere and the primary transfer voltage of the intermediate transfer belt is lower than the discharge starting voltage between the background area of the image carrier and the belt-shaped transfer member. Thereby, an increase of charge up of the toner is suppressed even when the tone passes through the transferring parts after the belt transfer.
|
