A process for production of titanium-containing silicon oxide catalysts satisfying the following requirements: (1)the average pore diameter is 10 ANGSTROM or above, (2) at least 90 % of the total pore volume is accounted for by pores having diameters of 5 to 200 ANGSTROM , (3) the specific pore volume is 0.2 cm<3>/g or above, and (4) the catalyst is one produced by using a quaternary ammonium ion of the general formula (I) as the molding agent and then removing it by extraction with a solvent: (I) (wherein R<1> is a linear or branched C2-36 hydrocarbon group; and R<2> to R<4> are each C1-6 alkyl), which comprises the first step of mixing a silica source with a titanium source and a molding agent under stirring in a liquid state to form a solid containing the catalyst components and the molding agent, the second step of drying the solid at 120 DEG C or below, and the third step of subjecting the resulting dry solid to extraction with a solvent to remove the molding agent.
