The invention relates to a tool holder, which can be driven in a pulsatory and/or rotative manner and comprises a base body (3) containing a receiving bore (5) for a tool shaft (7) that has at least one recess (19). At least one locking body that can engage in the recess (19) of the tool shaft (7) is mounted in the base body (3) so that it can be radially displaced, a spring-loaded sliding sleeve (23) on the base body (3) interacting with the locking body (21). The aim of the invention is to provide an extremely stable automatic tool locking mechanism, which can also be used for heavy-duty hammer drills. To achieve this, the locking body is configured as a locking bolt (21) that extends transversally in relation to the longitudinal axis of the base body (3). A first guideway (35) for the locking bolt (21) is recessed into the base body (3), said guideway running obliquely towards the exterior and a second guideway (17) for the locking bolt (21) is located in the sliding sleeve (23), said guideway running radially towards the exterior. Both guideways (35, 37) are positioned in relation to one another in such a way that during the displacement of the sliding sleeve (23) against the spring force, the locking bolt (21) simultaneously slides towards the exterior in both guideways (35, 37).
