PURPOSE: To provide a method capable of producing fine-grain homogeneous barium titanate powder using a solid phase reaction process. CONSTITUTION: In the method for producing barium titanate powder with steps for mixing and calcining barium carbonate powder and titanium oxide powder, acicular powdery barium carbonate particles (particles having a shape which satisfies a major to minor axis size ratio of >=2) are used as the barium carbonate powder and preferably acicular powdery barium carbonate particles having >=5.0 m¬2/g specific surface area are used.
