PURPOSE:To attain both packet exchange and line exchange by incorporating a multiplexer and a demultiplexer multiplexing/demultiplexing a packet exchange data and a line exchange data into one node station. CONSTITUTION:An optical signal from an input terminal 1 is converted into an electric signal by an 0/E exchange 2, the signal is inputted to a data synchronization section 3 and a demultiplexer 4. The demultiplexer 4 demultiplexes the data into the packet exchange data and the line exchange data based on the format synchronization of the data synchronizing section 3 and outputs the result to a packet exchange data processing section 5 and a line exchange data processing section 6 respectively. After the multiplexer 9 composes the packet exchange data and the line exchange data sent respectively from the packet data processing section 5 and the line exchange data processing section 6 into a prescribed format and outputs the result to an E/0 converter 10 based on the synchronizing signal of the data synchronizing section 3.
