<p>A wireless communication system (300) including a first cellular network operable to serve terrestrial based mobile stations and a second cellular network operable to serve non-terrestrial based mobile stations, each of the first and second networks including serving communication units defining cells and operable to serve mobile stations within the cells with a communications resource, and at least one mobile station (314) capable of communicating with serving communication units of the first network and serving communications of the second network, the system (300) including handover means operable to facilitate handover (280) of communications service of a given mobile station between the first network and the second network, the handover means being operable to produce location information relating to the location of the mobile station and to derive using the location information a resource scanning list (250) of selected cells to be scanned by the mobile station (314) for prospective service handover between the first and second networks. A wireless subscriber unit and method of cell re-selection are also described. In this manner, calls are not dropped when transferring a call from, say, an AGA non-terrestrial cell to a terrestrial cell. <IMAGE></p> |
