<p>During a back up process, files are read from a disk in the order according to the distance which they are located from the beginning of the disk, i.e. Y, X....., Z, D, A, G, H...., E, F, B, N, O....., L, M, C. This is more efficient than reading the files in the order in which they appear in the file directory (e.g. alphabetical order) as extraneous repositioning of the disk and the read head is avoided. <IMAGE></p> |
