Herbicidal nicotinamide derivs. of formula (I) [X=O or S; R1= H, Me, Et or allyl; R2=H, F, Cl, cyano or Me or Et (un)substd. by one or more F; R3=F, Cl, Br, cyano, CF3 OMe, OEt, OCF3 or C1-4 alkanesulphonyl. One of R4 and R5 is H, the other is H or as R3; R6=H, F, Cl, cyano or ethynyl; R7=F or Cl; R8=H, F, Cl, Br, Me or Et; m=0-2, when m is 2, R7 can be same or different. When R2 and R6 are both H, then m is zero are prepd. Thus, 2-(3fluorophenoxy) nicotinic acid is treated with 4-FC6H4NH2 and SOCl2 to give (I) (x=o, m=o, R2=R3=H, R6=R1=R4=R5=R8=H).
