<p>A system and method for determining the location of a mobile, for example the position of a person (10) carrying a mobile radio handset (12) makes use of receivers on nearby vehicles (20,22,24) for triangulation or timing measurements. The precise locations of the vehicles themselves is determined from GPS satellites (40) enhanced with signals received from fixed aerial locations (30,32,34). A control centre (50) determines the absolute location of the handset (12) by a weighted combination of measurements taken at the vehicles and at the fixed aerial sites. <IMAGE></p> |
