SOLUTION: In fractionating a suspended substance from a suspension fluid by buoyancy, wherein the suspended substance having electric conductivity different from that of a conductive solution is suspended in the conductive solution, a container 1 housing the suspension fluid, the electrode 2 provided in the container 1 to allow a current to flow to the suspension fluid and a magnetic field applying means 3, which applies a magnetic fluid to the suspension fluid so that Lorentz force increasing the buoyancy of the suspended substance acts on the conductive solution, are provided. When a current is allowed to flow to the suspension fluid housed in the container 1 by the electrode 2, the Lorentz force acting on the conductive solution can allow large force to act on the suspended substance in cooperation with gravity and, as a result, large buoyancy can be applied to the suspended substance.
