PURPOSE:To write servo data without using a servo writer and to improve efficiency of production by moving a magnetic head from the center of a data track to its inner and outer peripheries by a prescribed distance and writing a servo pattern. CONSTITUTION:At the time of writing servo data by an embedding servo system, a servo area is DC-erased by a magnetic head at first and then the magnetic head is set up on the center position Tc, e.g. a position 14g, of a data track. The head is moved from the position 14g to a position 14f by 1/4 track distance to write a servo pattern B. Similarly, the head is moved from the center position Tc to a position 14h to write a servo pattern A. When the center Tc of the data track is set up as a reference position, it is unnecessary to set up the border position of the servo track high accurately, so that a writing process based upon an expensive servo writer can be omitted, and the efficiency of production can be improved.
