METHOD FOR DECOMPOSING AND DESULFURIZING THIOPHENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing and desulfurizing thiophene whereby thiophene is decomposed at a relatively low temperature not into a noxious gas such as hydrogen sulfide but into a solid sulfide. SOLUTION: This method for decomposing and desulfurizing thiophene comprises adding to thiophene a metal that generates hydrogen by reaction with water in the presence of an alkali under supercritical water conditions and an aqueous alkali solution and subjecting the obtained mixture to a hydrothermal reaction under supercritical water conditions.
