PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alarm device to issue an alarm when the distance from the vehicle concerned to any object located ahead becomes smaller than the specified alarm distance, in which the alarm issue is made at such a timing as to suit the braking characteristic inherent to the driver. SOLUTION: There is a certain relationship between the idle run time of each driver and the vehicle head time and between the idle run time and the assumed deceleration coefficient. For example, a driver with excellent smartness has a shorter idle run time and vehicle head time than any other who is inferior in the smartness and has a tendency to operate with a greater deceleration. Also a driver having a composed character has a longer idle run time and vehicle head time than any other who has a quick-temperd character and has a tendency to operate with a smaller deceleration. If accordingly the set distance is decided on the basis of these relationships, alarm can be issued at a timing to suit the braking characteristics inherent to the particular drivers.
