PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer and a drive condition setting circuit in which a drive condition can be set finely while eliminating the need for A/D conversion when a drive condition is set optimally for a head, and the wiring is not complicated even if the head and a control section are separated. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer comprises a head module 10 having a head 11 for ejecting ink, a section 22 for driving the head, and a section 21 for controlling the drive section. The head module comprises a section 12 for presetting information for optimizing the drive condition of the head, and a section 13 for detecting the optimization information from the setting section 12 in the form of digital signal. The control section 21 reads out the optimization information detected at the detecting section and sets an optimal drive condition based on the optimization information before driving the head with the drive condition thus set.
