PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator capable of enhancing transporting efficiency for wheelchair users, and also improving service to ordinary users. SOLUTION: Special steps 3a, 3b capable of loading a wheelchair 4 are provided at symmetrical positions in circular passage between an upper story floor 2a and a lower story floor 2b. When a wheelchair operation mode is selected by a wheelchair operation buttons of operation consoles 5a, 5b at one or both of the upper story and the lower story, a control device 7 deforms the special steps at the selected one or both of story floors and carries out wheelchair operation. Therefore, the special steps at the upper story and the lower story can be simultaneously deformed to transport a wheelchair, so that waiting time is reduced and transporting efficiency is improved.
