PURPOSE: To suppress an after image. CONSTITUTION: A pixel region of a side of liquid crystal of one of boards oppositely disposed through the liquid crystal is provided with a thin film transistor driven by supplying a scanning signal from a gate signal line, a pixel electrode supplied with an image signal from a drain signal line through the thin film transistor and an opposite electrode for generating an electric field between the opposite electrode and the pixel electrode. The opposite electrode is formed on an upper layer of the pixel electrode through a stacked insulating film. The stacked insulating film is provided with a protecting film comprising an insulating film and a protecting film which is a sequentially stacked element of an inorganic material layer and an organic material layer. A gate insulating film is a part of the insulating layer. The opposite electrode comprises a plurality of strip electrodes extending in one direction and intersecting in another direction. The pixel electrode comprises a transparent planate electrode formed in a major part of the pixel region.
