<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for driving a tape, capable of efficiently performing fast forwarding and rewinding. SOLUTION: When a stopping operation is performed at a time not close to a reader during fast forwarding/rewinding, a soft brake is operated to slowly put a brake on a reel base 44. On the other hand, when closeness to the reader is detected, a speed is reduced to a normal forwarding/rewinding and, when reaching to the reader is detected, a hard brake is operated to put a sudden brake on the reel base 44. Thus, it is not necessary to reduce the speed to a low level even in the vicinity of the tape end near the reader, winding time from after speed reduction to the tape end is made faster, and fast forwarding/ rewinding is efficiently carried out.</p> |
