PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat bed scanner of a cover base by which a user can scan an original with its front surface up. SOLUTION: In the flat bed scanner 200 of the cover base, a cover 201 of the flat bed scanner 200 is provided with a scan element 203 and at least one image platen 209. At least part of the cover 201 may be made transparent so as to facilitate positioning of the original. By providing a scan element and a platen also on the base 205 of the flat bed scanner 200 of the cover base, double-side scanning can be performed.
