PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commodity search method and a search system that search for a lost article while protecting loser's privacy by preventing a third person from searching for other person's commodity. SOLUTION: An identification code, which includes commodity attribute information identifying a commodity and a mail address, is attached to the commodity in advance. The identification code sent with a commodity search request is obtained from a communication terminal and a search is made for the commodity to which the identification code corresponding to the identification code obtained from the communication terminal is attached. Then, the obtained search result is sent to the mail address included in the identification code obtained from the communication terminal.
