PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode structure causing no deterioration of the generating performance of a solid polymer fuel cell, even if hot press is applied thereto, and the solid polymer fuel cell with superior generating performance. SOLUTION: A pair of electrodes 1, 2 are joined integrally to an electrolyte membrane 3 held between both electrodes 1, 2. The electrolyte membrane 3 is a polymer electrolyte membrane formed by sulfonating a polyallylene polymer consisting of aromatic compound units having electron attractive groups in main chains and aromatic compound units having no electron attractive groups in main chains so that the number of charges (a Q value) per unit area of the electrode structure, measured under predetermined conditions, is within 0.09-0.18 C/cm2. The electrolyte membrane 3 is formed of a sulfonate of the polyallylene polymer consisting of 5-70 mol% aromatic compound units having the electron attractive groups in the main chains and 30-95 mol% aromatic compound units having no electron attractive groups in the main chains. |
