PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent illegal setting revision/reference in a terminal adaptor(TA) constituting a communication system provided with a remote maintenance function. SOLUTION: A TA 1-1 constituting a communication system having a remote maintenance function and comprising the TA 1-1 that contains a data terminal 3-1 and is a maintenance object, a user management terminal 3-2 connected to the TA via an ISDN line 5 and a support use management terminal 3-3 connected to the TA, is provided with a sub address registration section 12 that registers a user remote maintenance sub address MSAU and a support remote maintenance sub address MSAS, a sub address extract section 11 that extracts a sub address SA from a received signal, a coincidence discrimination section 13 that discriminates whether or not the SA extracted by the extract section 11 is coincident with the MSAU/MASA registered by the registration 12, and a maintenance management section 16 that sets or replaces or refers to the MSAU registered by the registration section 12.
