PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to recognize visually readily the classification of a disk-shaped recording medium loaded on the loading mechanism of a recording and reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: A CPU 3 discriminates, on a basis of the comparison of the A/D conversion value of an optical disk recording medium 25 processed in an RF processing section 14 and the threshold level set beforehand, whether the optical disk recording medium 25 loaded on the loading mechanism of the recording and reproducing apparatus are either of CD-ROM or CD-R, or CD-RW. Then, the CPU 3 checks whether a absolute time in pregroove(ATIP) signal has been generated in the RF processing section 14, and discriminates temporarily whether the optical disk recording medium 25 is CD-ROM or CD-R. Further, the CPU 3 carries out, on the basis of the acquired disk information and the recording information on a logical format, the last decision of the classification of the optical disk recording medium 25 and displays the classification of the optical disk recording medium 25 in the icon on a display section 12. |
