PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image reader with which monochromatic reading is performed at a high speed with an excellent SN. SOLUTION: Signal charges received and stored in a light reception part G positioned at the center are synthesized with the signal charges received and stored in the next storage period in the light reception part B where the signal charges pass through and are horizontally transferred in transfer registers 308 and 309 and monochromatic output is obtained.
