摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can accurately detect the luminous quantity of a light source so as to keep proper image quality at all times. SOLUTION: The image reader employing a light source emitting light to an original and a line sensor receiving the reflected light from the original to output an image signal, is provided with an input/output means (I/F controller 309) that receives/outputs a signal to/from an external device at inspection of the luminous quantity of the light source, a luminous quantity detection means (a peak hold processing section 703 and a path selection section 705) that receives the image signal from the line sensor to detect the luminous quantity of the light source, and a control means that controls the light source, the line sensor and the luminous quantity detection means to detect the luminous quantity of the light source and outputs the result of detection to an external device via the input output means when receiving a detection instruction signal of the luminous quantity of the light source from the external device via the input/output means.
