PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set capable of utilizing the portable telephone set as a translating machine when it is necessary to make a conversation in foreign language, confirming a recorded message as characters, and listening to the meanings of recorded English words as conversational words, and to provide a translation method using the portable telephone set. SOLUTION: A portable telephone set is provided with a voice recognizing part 4 for converting receiving voice data in the first language of the communicating party into character data in the first language, a control unit 7 for replacing the converted character data in the first language with character data in the second language based on dictionary data indicating the corresponding relation of the first language and the second language, a voice synthesizing part 5 for converting the replaced character data in the second language into voice data in the second language, and a microphone 14 for outputting the converted voice data in the second language. |
