MULTILEVEL PRINTING METHOD FOR REDUCING ALIASING OF GRAPHICS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve visual quality. SOLUTION: This multilevel printing method using a printer comprises four steps. 1. Electronic page data are converted to a multilevel bitmap with a specified number of gradation levels (Nlev) at a specified spatial resolution by a raster image processor (RIP). The specified resolution is higher than the resolution of the printer. 2. The multilevel bitmap is converted to a lower spatial resolution. 3. An image processing technique is used to reduce the number of the gradation levels to some lower number Nlevp giving a second multilevel bitmap. 4. By using the printer capable of recording at at least Nlevp pieces of different gradation levels in a single pixel, the multilevel bitmap is printed out.
