PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately present a group of directional keyword candidates based on a keyword inputted by a user. SOLUTION: This information retrieval support system 10 presenting a candidate word to be inputted following an input word is provided with a sequence creating part 34 for creating a retrieval sequence wherein a group of input words inputted by a user for a certain purpose is arranged in time sequence; a retrieval sequence database 36 for storing the retrieval sequence; a hash creating part 38 for creating a hash with a certain input word as a key on the basis of the stored sequence; a hash database 40 for storing the created hash; a hash acquiring part 44 for acquiring the hash with the input word as the key from the hash database in response to the input word supplied through a retrieval engine 31; an index computing part 46 for computing an index on the word included in the hash; and a directory preparing part 48 for preparing a word directory by arranging the word in the word directory with the key used as the root when the word meets prescribed conditions. The prepared word directory is outputted.
