PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a picture tube which uses a panel without processing its surface, has almost uniform brightness ratio between a peripheral part and a center part of a screen and can reproduce an image without degrading a contrast. SOLUTION: The picture tube has varied opening widths of the center part and the peripheral part of a black matrix stripe so as to have a ratio of the peripheral part to the center part of 85% or more of a total light transmissivity of a light transmissivity of a glass base of the panel 1 and a light transmissivity of an opening of the black matrix strip.
