<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform sure automatic tape loading. SOLUTION: A control mechanism is a part of a tape drive for receiving a tape cartridge to be unloaded. The tape cartridge stores a movable data storage tape 28 by using the control mechanism. The control mechanism includes a cam and a plurality of gears. A reader assembly is functionally connected to the control mechanism. At least, a part of the reader assembly is moved associatively with the loading/unloading of the data storage tape 28 on the reader assembly. A reader pin 56 is joined to the end of the data storage tape 28. In a loading operation, a part of the reader assembly is generally moved into the tape cartridge linearly, and then this part is rotated by the control mechanism to engage the reader pin 56, thereby removing it from a seat. In an unloading operation, a part of the reader assembly is moved in a direction nearly opposite to that in the loading operation.</p> |
