摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of rapidly discriminating with high accuracy whether an amino acid sequence is membrane protein or not. SOLUTION: (a) A hydrophobic index H, an amphipathic property index A and a non-charge index C are assigned on 20 amino acid of a protein component. (b) A hydrophobic core index Icore of the amino acid sequence is computed using 5 to 9 windows W. (c) The Icore value is plotted as an axis of ordinate, and the amino acid chain of the discriminated protein is plotted as an axis of abscissa. (d) A segment wherein the number of amino acid residual groups exceeding a fixed threshold value is 15 or more, is set as the candidate of primary type membrane penetrating helix. (e) The twice average hydrophobic property <H> and average amphipathic property <A> of each candidate is computed. (f) When the primary type membrane penetrating helix does not exist according to a fixed discriminant, the discriminated protein is recognized as water soluble protein.</p>
