PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video decoder that separates a chroma signal and a luma (luminance) signal from a composite video signal. SOLUTION: The video decoder (40) is provided with a circuit that generates a color filter selection signal to apply filter processing to a chroma video signal (41) and a control logic (62) that determines filter selection on the basis of a color border characteristic of chroma video signals (U, V). The video decoder (40) is provided with a comb-like filter (46), a demodulator (42), a low pass filter (44), a re-modulator (48) and a subtractor (50). Chroma signals (Uout, Vout) subjected to the filter processing and re-modulation is subtracted from the composite video signal (41) to produce the luma signal without a hanging dot and false color.
