The optical waveguide structure has several planar waveguides that cross in an intersection area (7). The planar waveguides have a core (5a,5b) enclosed by a casing and the core material has a higher refractive index than the casing material. Each planar waveguide has an interruption (9a-9d) in its core in the cross-section at the input to the crossing area and at the output from the crossing area. Independent claims are included for: (1) a multilayer optical circuit board; and (2) a method of manufacturing an optical waveguide structure.
