The invention relates to a metal-ceramic composite material comprising a ceramic matrix and at least one metallic phase, which permeate one another, together form a body that is practically impervious and are in contact with one another on their boundary surfaces. The composite material is characterised in that the boundary surfaces are acicular in shape and that the metallic phases and the ceramic matrix are interlocked by the acicular boundary surfaces. In addition, tubular channels, which are filled with at least one metallic phase, penetrate the composite material.
