The invention relates to a method for the production of glass substrates (11) for electronic storage media, involving the following steps: producing a glass band (3) by means of a drawing and floating process; coating the glass band (3) with a protective layer; separating the glass band (3) into individual glass discs (1) with the aid of a laser cutting device or with the aid of a mechanical cutting device; cutting or boring one or several glass substrates (11) for electronic storage media from the glass discs (1), wherein the surface properties of the drawn or floated glass band (3) are substantially preserved during the individual processing steps to produce the glass substrate (11) for storage media.
