HYDROGEN GENERATION CATALYST AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN

A hydrogen generation catalyst which comprises a proton conductive material such as SrCe0.95Yb0.05O 3- delta and, occluded within the crystal lattice of the material, hydrogen. When the hydrogen generation catalyst is contacted with a compound containing hydrogen as a constituent element, the hydrogen is dissociated and adsorbed on the hydrogen generation catalyst, and the dissociated hydrogen (H<+>) is diffused into the interior of the catalyst and is bonded with the hydrogen (H<+>) having been occluded within the crystal lattice to form a hydrogen gas, which is released out of the catalyst. This phenomenon is unidirectional diffusion of H<+>, and therefore, new hydrogen H<+> which is diffused into the lattice is captured in the vacancy of the lattice from which an the previous H<+> has been eliminated, and thus the generation of a hydrogen gas is repeated.
