The production of a fireproofing mortar comprises reaction of the sulfur present in vulcanized rubber with the constituents of the aqueous emulsion of an agglutination agent. The rubber particles are incorporated in the crystal lattice of the polymers of the agglutination agent, and the fireproofing agent evolves non-combustible gas in the presence of fire sources. EMBODIMENT - The gas temporarily protects the mortar against contact with the oxygen of the air.
