The automatic control for a motor vehicle gearbox (3) and clutch has a control circuit (7) with a memory to control an actuator (8) for the clutch (2). The control receives signals from sensors and, in the case of the accelerator pedal is depressed, the engine power is transmitted through the clutch so that the engine speed is sufficient for starting of the vehicle as a function with respect to the selected gearbox ratio.
