PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection device for a handrail of a passenger conveyer capable of surely storing only the projecting and recessed state data on the surface of the handrail for one round of the handrail in a storage means. SOLUTION: This inspection device for a handrail is provided with a detecting means 4 for detecting the projecting and recessed state of the surface of the handrail, a storage means 5 for storing the projecting and recessed state data on the surface of the handrail before the use of the handrail and the projecting and recessed state data on the surface of the handrail after the use of the handrail detected by the detecting means, a determining means 6 for determining the existence/absence of abnormality by comparing the projecting and recessed state data on the surface of the handrail before the use of the handrail with the projecting and recessed state data on the surface of the handrail after the use of the handrail, and a position detecting means 7 for determining the start of recording and the end of recording the projecting and recessed state data on the surface of the handrail by the storage means 5.
