PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inactivating system for atmosphere in a head space to be used by a packaging machine for forming, filling and sealing a package. SOLUTION: In this inactivating system, inert gas is directly introduced in a head space of the package to be formed before filling and sealing the inert gas. The inactivating system comprises an inert gas generating source, an inert gas heater for heating the inert gas, and an inert gas nozzle. The inert gas nozzle is disposed inside a forming, filling and sealing packaging machine, and the inert gas is directly introduced in the head space of the package. The nozzle is further disposed between an upper heating station and a sealing station. A method for inactivating the atmosphere in the package head space is also disclosed.
