PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rod-shaped key which enhances the reliability of the key by making it harder to duplicate the key and can be used while making the direction of the key reversible. SOLUTION: The rod-shaped key 7 has a rod-shaped part 71, whose surface is formed with plural columns composed of plural longitudinally arranged recesses 77 capable of being engaged with a pin of a cylinder lock and which can be inserted into a keyhole of the cylinder lock. The rod-shaped part 71 is provided with a cylinder part 75, wherein the outer shape of a cross section perpendicular to the axis is made circular, and a guide protrusion 76 provided protrusively on the external surface of the cylinder part 75. The paired guide protrusions 76, formed at an interval at an angle of 180 degrees in a circumferential direction, can be engaged with a guide groove part formed in an inner cylinder of the cylinder lock. The recess 77 is formed so as to be the same as the recess located on an opposite side at the interval at the angle of 180 degrees in the circumferential direction, and the guide protrusion 76 is notched by at least a part of the recess 77.
