PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer type image recorder which can easily make images remaining on a used ink ribbon unreadable. SOLUTION: In the transfer type image recorder, a recording paper 7 and the ink ribbon 10 are held between a thermal head 12 and a platen 11, and ink of the ink ribbon 10 is transferred to the recording paper by heating of the thermal head 12 to carry out recording. The transfer type image recorder is provided with a control unit 23a which makes the thermal head 12 write overlay images B1 and B2 superposing on the original image A remaining on the used ink ribbon, thereby making the original image A on the used ink ribbon unreadable.
