PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of preventing occurrence of defective printing and damage of a motor or a paper conveyance system. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer comprises a printing section (a printing means) 105 for forming an image by ejecting ink drops from a jet head, a main scanning/driving section (a conveyance means) 107 for allowing the printing section 105 to scan in the main scanning direction, and a recovery operation section (a protecting means) 106 for protecting the jet head. The ink jet printer is equipped with an inclination detecting section (an inclination detecting means) 109 for detecting the inclination of the body of the printer.
