PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pile yarn which has rich bulkiness, dust removability, dust catching property, and elasticity, further has a good stepping touch, and can be produced at a low cost, to provide a mat using the pile yarn, and to provide a method for producing the pile yarn. SOLUTION: This pile yarn for the mat comprises a pile yarn, having the twisting directions of a first twist and a second twist in the mutually opposite directions, and fusing single filaments in a part or all parts of a yarn (a) to each other. The pile yarn comprises the yarn (a), or the yarn (a) and a yarn (b), and has the first twist and the second twist. The fineness of the yarn (a) is >=500 dtex, and >=25% of the total fineness is occupied with the yarn (a). Therein, the yarns (a) and (b) are a lower melting point multifilament and a higher melting point multifilament, respectively, among two kinds of the multi-filaments having the different melting points.
