PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a substance and a composition for prophylactic and therapeutic of diseases and pathological states related to the degeneration of the extracellular matrix (including, e.g. degenerative diseases but not limited to degenerative diseases, particularly atheroslcerosis, cancer, infection or other inflammatory diseases). SOLUTION: This pharmaceutical composition comprises ascorbates, at least one of fibrinolytic inhibitor and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The pharmaceutical composition comprises the ascorbates and the fibrinolytic collagenase inhibitor in amounts sufficient to treat the degenerative diseases related to collagenase.
